NORTH TOPSAIL BEACH — Onslow County officials shared on Monday aerial drone footage of North Topsail Beach conditions following Hurricane Matthew.
The storm swept up the North Carolina coast late Saturday and early Sunday, lashing beaches with high winds, big swells and heavy rainfall. Town officials reported that the shoreline fared well despite significant dune damage in some areas and breached dunes and sandbags on the northern end of the island.
The county shared the footage by way of a series of Facebook live videos.
The county also said in a Facebook graphic that storm damage assessments for Hurricane Matthew were ongoing. At least 157 structures were damaged and damage estimates total more than $3.1 million. Most damage, according to the graphic, was caused by wind and localized flooding.
