WASHINGTON – The Trump administration has ordered the Environmental Protection Agency to suspend all grant awards and contracts, the Washington Post reported.
The EPA awards more than $4 billion yearly in grants and assistance. The suspension goes beyond freezes ordered by previous incoming presidents.
The move could affect climate research, efforts to improve water and air quality and environmental justice projects.
The report cites an email sent Friday within hours of Trump’s swearing-in to employees in EPA’s Office of Acquisition Management. The email notes the temporary suspension of all contract and grant awards was effective immediately.
