Officials in the Dare County beach town of Nags Head say they are taking steps to better manage stormwater runoff.
The town recently replaced its $4 per month fee collected on water bills with a 1-cent property tax to fund stormwater management projects, including programs and infrastructure to mitigate localized flooding and enhance water quality. The tax generates about $230,000 per year and proceeds go toward stormwater-related infrastructure improvements.
