The replacement for the aging Herbert C. Bonner Bridge under construction in Dare County is anticipated to open to traffic by the end of the year, the North Carolina Department of Transportation announced Tuesday in the above video.
Spanning Oregon Inlet, the bridge project has been underway for more than two years.
Now through May, mariners should expect periodical closures up to two hours of the marine navigation channel. Advanced notice from the Coast Guard and NCDOT will be given on the NCDOT website.
Motorists can also expect daytime lane closures of N.C. 12 during daylight hours Monday-Friday. While one lane will remain open during these lane closures, travelers should allow extra time in their schedule.
