Scientists at the Coastal Studies Institute have partnered with The Nature Conservancy to build and study an oyster reef breakwater system to reduce erosion, provide shallow water habitat and foster establishment of native oyster populations along a high-energy section of estuarine shoreline on Roanoke Island.
