Around 88 percent of construction is complete on the Bonner Bridge Replacement Project, according to this July 12 update from Dare County.
The new bridge, expected to open in November of this year, will have a 100-year life span and will provide more options for navigation under the bridge.
As work progresses, travelers of the Bonner Bridge can expect daytime lane closures of N.C. 12 Monday through Thursday and nighttime lane closures Sunday through Thursday. One lane will remain open during these closures, but motorists should allow for extra travel time.
Mariners of Oregon Inlet should maintain caution as well while traveling through this area. Updates of delays can be found U.S. Coast Guard local notice to mariners and marine safety information bulletins.
