CAPE HATTERAS NATIONAL SEASHORE — Put on some sunscreen and meet park rangers and the North Carolina Beach Buggy Association 8 a.m. to noon June 22 for drop-in volunteer beach cleanups.
Volunteer beach cleanup events will be held at the following locations:
- Coquina Beach Access on Bodie Island. Meet park staff at the bathhouse.
- Old Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Site on Hatteras Island. Meet park staff in the parking lot.
- Ocracoke Beach Access. Meet park staff in the parking lot.
Trash bags will be provided. Volunteers younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.
While the drop-in cleanups are taking place on foot, Buggy Association members will be at the park’s off-road vehicle ramps passing out trash bags for collecting litter. Participants are asked to deposit the trash bags at the ramp entrance for collection.
All participants and volunteers are encouraged to bring leather gloves, water, snacks and sunscreen and wear appropriate clothing, such as closed-toe shoes and hats.
Another beach cleanup event will be held Sept. 21. To learn more about volunteer opportunities at the seashore, visit www.volunteer.gov or call 252-475-9042.
