The Hertford County Board of Commissioners is set to hold a public hearing to consider a proposed moratorium on solar farm development.
The meeting at 9:30 a.m. Monday will be in the commissioners’ chambers, multi-purpose room, second floor of Hertford County Courthouse, 119 Justice Drive, Winton.
“Hertford County citizens have expressed concerns to the county commissioners about the proliferation of solar farms. So, the commissioners have decided to hold a public hearing to receive comments, before making a decision about whether or not to adopt a moratorium,” David Cotton, county manager, told Coastal Review Online Tuesday.
The April 2020 meeting minutes show that a commissioner suggested that the county regulate solar farms because of complaints with the farms affecting property values. The county attorney advised the board that the county has guidelines in place and if those are followed, solar farms are allowed.
