Hatteras Seeks Information on Vandalism

Cape Hatteras National Seashore law enforcement rangers are looking for information about an act of vandalism at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse.

The seashore has launched an investigation and rangers are asking for tips from the public to help catch those responsible for using an object to carve letters and other shapes into the lighthouse’s original bronze door, the National Park Service announced Friday evening.

A recent report of multiple people at the bronze door for an unusually long time has been received. Additional details were not available.
Anyone with information that may help determine the individual or individuals, circumstances and events that led to this act of vandalism are asked to contact the National Park Service’s Investigative Services Branch at 888-653-0009 or submit a tip at www.nps.gov/isb or the Dare County Community Crime Line at https://darecommunitycrimeline.org/tips.
